April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic gold medal. She is one of a few female beach volleyball players that be able to do so. In Tokyo over the next several days she will attempt to win her third gold medal alongside first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross will also be hoping for her very first Olympic gold. And at the age of 39, this could be her last chance to accomplish this. However, she's convinced that top prizes are in reach. If we perform at our very highest or perform well, I think we can get that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. Also, I'll take the chance to have chances. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in the year 1982. Her parents as well as her sister lived in the area. In addition to playing in numerous sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. Apart from indoor volleyball, she was a basketball player and also ran track as a pre-collegiate athlete. She clearly was the top at the sport of indoor volleyball. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker, outside hitter and setter at the tennis court as per her college bio. To honor her achievements she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. Her skills in volleyball earned her the Orange County Athlete of the Awards in 2000. Ross and Klineman may have begun working together in the year 2017, however Ross was already an established athlete at the beach prior to when they teamed up. Actually Ross has been a winner of several major tournaments in her career with two partners. One of them is a legend. From 2007-2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Ross, the teammate of Kessy's, who took home the title of world champion with Kessy in 2009, was also a major force on international stage. The duo won silver at London's Olympics. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team along with Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate when Maytreanor retired. The pair were able to win the beach volleyball bronze in the Rio Olympics in 2016. In high school and the several years prior to hitting the sand as a pro Ross played with the Trojans of USC as a collegiate. The time she spent at USC was quite impressive. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year in the year 2000, a young freshman. She also helped the Trojans reach into the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating defeat in her sophomore year however, she was able to achieve the All-American distinction. The two years following her she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain and won consecutive national titles. For her part Ross established her status as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the most outstanding female volleyball players at colleges across the nation. Ross, an USC international relations student, was a volleyball star. Margie Ross was not able to see Ross reach beach volleyball's highest stage. In 2001 when Ross was in her sophomore year at USC her mother died of breast cancer. She still holds her mother close to her heart. Margie at the beach and in daily life, continues to inspire her.
